Ahh, Lust. What an evil, evil little thing. Whether it be for another person or a material object, lust is a worldly thing & seeks to destory all your spiritual ties.
When we lust after something, we are losing sight of what we already have in God. “This person or thing that seems to promise sheer satisfaction is more like a bottomless pit of unmet longings.”
Lust always breeds more lust. Think about that. What was the last thing you really, really wanted? A new car, a bigger house, a new husband, the latest tech gadget. Ok, you got what you wanted and it’s now been a month since you got your brand new “must have”. Do you still love it? Did it/he/she meet your every need and now make you feel complete? Yes? Great! Now let’s travel a little further down the road, let’s say a year. Is your new car still spotless and smell new or does it smell like any other ordinary car, have a few dings on the body and stains on the carpet? Did you take excellent care of that new house, cleaning it every day. Or are you complaining about having to clean such a big house? How’s that new mate? Perfection walking or the most annoying man on earth?
What we have to remember is all these “things” or a new mate are never going to complete us. “[Lust]breeds anger, numbs hearts, and destroys marriages. Rather than fullness, it leads to emptiness.” A new mate or material thing will not fill that void we have. Only God can do that. You need to turn to him, ask him to fill you with his love and grant you his grace. THEN you will feel complete.
Are you tired of feeling empty? Then start focusing on God’s word. His promise of a fullfiled life through him. Focus on all the blessings God has already given you rather then all the things you think he has held back from you.
Then turn your focus back on your spouse!
Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice in the wife of your youth…Be exhilarated always with her love. For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress and embrace the bosom of a foreigner? For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He watches all his paths.
ie: the grass ain’t greener on the other side, kids! Stick with who you have and delight in them as you did when you first got together!
Here is another good one, and what has stood out to me the most through this whole book:
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 2:15.
Love Dare #24
Love vs. Lust
End it now. Identify every object of lust in your life and remove it. Single out every lie you’ve swallowed in pursuing forbidden pleasure and reject it. Lust cannot be allowed to live in a back bedroom. It must be killed and destroyed. Today! Replace it with the sure promises of God and a heart filled with His perfect love.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and take the time to do the dare. By identifying and removing lust from your life, I think you will see improvements in all areas of your life!
Til next time, kids…
